What do I have to do in return?

It is your responsibility that you:

  • Want to do be part of the programme
  • Complete an application form
  • Can provide proof of residency (passport or other ID) and prior qualifications
  • Commit to 18 hours per week
  • Are dedicated and wanting to secure an apprenticeship or employment

Who are Study Progammes for?

There are no formal entry requirements, other than you are aged between 16 to 18 years of age, living in England and having ordinarily resident in the UK/EU for the past 3 Years. The majority of our learners will have left school with no, or few, qualifications. Aspire is ideal for you if you have fewer than 5 GCSE’s at A*-C (or equivalent level qualifications) and aim to progress into employment or training. What is in it for me?

A Good quality work placement:

Choice and relevance - Placements will be matched to your areas of interest and aspiration, with you undertaking high quality work experience rather than observation or mundane tasks.

Organisational readiness - Commitment from senior managers or owner/manager and a low ratio of trainees to experienced staff.

Good preparation - Thorough pre-placement preparation by the provider, employer and prospective trainee and an understanding of your circumstances that may affect your workplace behaviour.

Written agreement - Made between you, the employer and ourselves setting out Mutual expectations and commitments, including the training plan and Arrangements for reviews.

A planned placement - A structured induction, clear objectives and integrated off-the-job training, with an identified mentor or buddy.

Feedback and review - Regular constructive feedback from managers and formal reviews at key stages with the manager, provider and trainee

Congratulations on your first step to a brighter future. Our dedicated team of staff will build a learning programme to meet your individual needs, including vocational training, work experience, employment skills, English and Maths.

What is the Aspire Study Programme?

This new programme is designed to provide you with the skills needed to move onto an Apprenticeship, employment or further education. We also offer work experience opportunities with local employers to help you get a feel for working life in an industry that you are interested in.

Aspire study programmes are open to all young people aged 16 - 18 who are not in education, employment or training. They are free courses that can help improve skills, qualifications and confidence so helps you to get a job, apprenticeship or place at college. Aspire is a great way to start to build your skills, especially if they have left school with no, or few, qualifications.

What will Redwood Skills do for me?

  • Our tutors will work closely with you to offer advice and guidance on a 1-2-1 basis
  • Training will be delivered in small groups of around fifteen learners. Because the groups are small you will get one to one support. It's nothing like school, and you work at your own pace with individualised support when you need it. The programmes also combine learning with fun trips and visits
  • We will work with a number of employers across London to encourage them to invest time and resources in taking on quality work placements
  • We will help support you achieve your English and Maths qualifications
  • We will carry out confidence building and practical skills to help you secure employment

How do they work?

Whilst on the Aspire programme you can complete qualifications and work-experience relating to one the following vocational pathways, alongside qualifications in English, Maths and ICT

  • Business Administration
  • Beauty
  • Hairdressing
  • Construction
  • Information technology
  • Childcare
  • A focus on work preparation training, covering areas like CV writing, interview preparation, job search and inter-personal skills including confidence building
  • English and maths as these are seen as crucial employability skills
  • A high quality work placement to give you meaningful Work experience and develop workplace skills
